Build and durability, performance, clogging, and price are the major differences between Saburrtooth and Kutzall tools.

Let’s see how the differences work out for both brands.

  • Build and Durability

Both brands use high-quality materials for their tools. Saburrtooth tools usually have more refined teeth alignment.

They also chip easily if you drop them. Kutzall tools have more randomly aligned teeth and don’t chip very easily.

Saburrtooth has a better range of products compared to Kutzall. But that hasn’t deteriorated their product quality at all.

An interesting feature of Saburrtooth burring and carving tools is the teeth on them. They’re aligned perfectly in a straight line. This helps the tools achieve a smoother finish.

The problem with Saburrtooth tools is that they chip too easily, no matter if they are in a donut wheel or a burr. You put them down a little too hard and you’ll see the edges chipping.

This isn’t the case with Kutzell. Their product range is slightly smaller compared to Saburrtooth, and most of their non-sanding tools are slightly more aggressive.

They have abrasive and random teeth on them so the finish is slightly coarser. Good thing is, they don’t chip easily. The edges do get chipped but it takes more to reach that point.

  • Performance And Clogging

Surprisingly, Saburrtooth tools run faster compared to Kutzall no matter which one you’re using. They also don’t leave groves on wood and produce less fine dust.

Kutzall on the other hand produces more fine dust and their tools tend to leave groves on wood.

Saburrtooth has the perfect detailing tool, but that doesn’t mean the other tools are bad. Other than the sanding bits, every tool runs pretty fast and starts cutting wood quicker than Kutzall ones.

The tools (burrs and wheels both) produce more chips than dust. This means you won’t have to worry about inhaling wood dust in your workspace.

Another good thing about Saburrtooth tools is that they don’t clog easily. Since the tools produce more chips than dust, the buildup in the teeth is minimal and slow.

Kutzall on the other hand is slower but more aggressive. Their tools dig in the woods with more intensity.

This is why the Kutzall burrs tend to leave deep groves on wood (especially hardwood). The detailing tools from Kutzall also produce a lot of fine dust which stays in the air for a long time.

But the main issue is the clogging. Kutzall tools, especially the burrs, tend to clog up pretty quickly. Of course, you can clean them easily but it is an issue nonetheless.

  • Price

Both brands are pretty close in price range, but Saburrtooth is slightly more prices. Every tool costs about $10 more (on average) compared to Kutzall.

That doesn’t feel much but if you’re buying multiple bits, it adds up. If you’re a beginner and you’re looking to get used to the tools, Kutzall ones would be a far better choice.

Which One Should You Go For?

Here comes the tricky part. As you know now, both brands are amazing and high-quality. Not just that, they’re very close too in terms of other criteria.

With Saburrtooth and Kutzall practically being twins, public opinion of them is almost evenly split too.

That means when you’re choosing one, you’ll have to go with your own preference.

If you’re looking for something easy to work with and want more options to choose from, Saburrtooth is the perfect choice for you.

They have a better product range and their tools are known for being smooth.

The tools non-sanding tools dig in pretty fast but have a surprisingly smoother finish.

If you’re looking for something you can use for more detailed works and don’t want to deal with wood dust in the air, Saburrtooth is hard to beat. Sure, it costs a little more but it pays off in the long run.

If you’re looking for more aggressive options and don’t mind the slower speed, go with Kutzall. These tools are very durable and will last you a pretty long time.

They’re pretty easy to work with too and won’t chip easily.

The best part is these tools are on the affordable spectrum. So if you’re a beginner, getting a whole set of Kutzall is worth it.

The only problem is, they aren’t the best option for detailed work. And another problem is, the tools produce more dust compared to Saburrtooth no matter which one you’re using.

Overall, Saburrtooth is the better option in this case. But if you’re looking for affordable options or want aggressive tools, Kutzall is a solid option to go for.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between Typhoons and Kutzall burrs?

The biggest difference is their grains. Kutzall gives a smoother finish compared to Typhoon, even when you’re using coarse tools from both brands. Kutzall also has finer options (Kutzall gold burr) compared to Typhoon.

How do you clean Kutzall burrs?

You’ll have to use a torch. Start the torch and swipe it around the burr teeth. Continue doing this till the debris burns and hardens.

Final Verdict

Saburrtooth and Kutzall- both are very reliable brands when it comes to woodworking tools. As for the Saburrtooth or Kutzall debate, it really depends on your preference and what kind of work you’re doing.

Objectively speaking, Saburrtooth is the better choice. But if you want something aggressive or affordable, Kutzall is right there.
